PANELS AND PANEL ACCESSORIES (PPA) at SBS

At SBS, we meticulously craft secondary framing members and cladding components using high-quality materials such as zinc-coated steel coils or aluminum coils. In some cases, we also utilize ZAM Coils to enhance durability and corrosion resistance.

Raw Material Preparation: When the raw material is designated for secondary steel structural members like purlins and girts, it arrives in a “bare” state, indicating a uniform protective zinc or zinc alloy coating on all surfaces. This ensures longevity and resilience against environmental factors. For coils destined for roof and/or wall cladding, they typically arrive pre-painted. The weather-exposed surface boasts polyester, polyurethane, PVDF, or plastisol topcoats, providing both aesthetic appeal and long-lasting protection. Meanwhile, the interior surface is coated with zinc phosphate or primer for additional defense against corrosion.

Manufacturing Process: Our manufacturing process involves precision engineering and design specification control. Chemical composition and mechanical properties of the steel or aluminum sheets must adhere strictly to engineering requirements to ensure structural integrity. The grade and thickness of the sheet are critical factors in the building’s design. Frame spacing considerations are crucial for purlins and girts, while cladding design is influenced by purlin and girt spacing.

Role in Construction: These secondary framing components play a vital role in both Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) and Hot Rolled (HR) steel-framed structures. They provide essential frame-to-frame support and facilitate the attachment of external cladding. In PEB buildings, achieving inter-dependent stability relies heavily on the synergy between mainframe members, bracing, secondary framing, and cladding members. Each subsystem contributes significantly to the overall structural integrity of the building.

Manufacturing Process Details: Critical elements of PEB supply, such as roof purlins, eave struts, and wall girts, are manufactured using an integrated PLC-controlled roll-forming line. This process involves precise steps, including uncoiling raw material coils, leveling the sheet, measuring length and hole placement, cutting it to required lengths, and forming the flat sheet into “zee” or “cee” shaped profiles. Additionally, smaller components like clips or angles are press-formed or punched. Cladding and trim components undergo a similar roll-forming process, as described for secondary framing members. Weather flashing and architectural trims are produced from pre-painted coils but are slit-to-width and formed using presses.

Quality Assurance: At the final stage, stringent quality acceptance and inspection of cold-formed components take place. This ensures dimensional conformity and verifies the integrity of the coatings on the components, guaranteeing superior performance and longevity of the finished product.
